Akai MPC Pro Pack

The Akai MPC Pro Pack is a premium software expansion for the MPC and Force ecosystem, designed to work with MPC OS 3.6 and later. It introduces a suite of new plugins, enhanced audio tools, and advanced workflow features such as clip launching, modulation, and improved time-stretching.

The Pro Pack comes pre-activated on the MPC Live III, while owners of earlier MPC and Force devices can purchase and install it separately once running firmware version 3.6 or higher.

This pack deepens integration across hardware and software, providing professional-grade effects, enhanced modulation options, and better creative control directly inside the MPC environment.

Additional Notes:

  • Plugins included in the Pro Pack are exclusive to the MPC/Force environment (not VST, AU, or AAX).
  • Requires firmware version 3.6 or later.
  • Included free with MPC Live III hardware.
  • The license entitles the user to install on 3 devices.

Advanced CV Playground

CV connectivity is a major feature with the MPC and Force products. However, there has always been a lack of CV support within the firmware. The Pro Pack provides expanded control for modular and CV-based setups makes it possible to integrate your MPC with more external gear for endless inspiration.

Akai MPC/Force Range CV Options

The Pro Pack provides options to map features like Envelopes, Keytrack, Gate, Velocity, Stepper and mod matrix to the CV routing.

The Q Links have always been an option for configuring extra controls. However in the older firmware – the level of flexibility on configuration is limited, often leaving users to frustration. It usually depends on how well Akai have programmed the plugin that dictates what usefulness the Q Links provide.

The Pro Pack unlocks Envelope Follower and LFO functionality for deeper modulation possibilities. I was hoping for more customisable options.

Super Warp Algorithm

The new Super Warp Algorithm adds improved time-stretching for high-quality pitch and tempo changes. We’ve been waiting for this for a long time – how good it is will depend on your hardware specs. I’d hazard to say the Gen 2 (MPC Live III etc) will be more suitable.

MPC Clip Launching

Although clip launching was introduced to the MPC back in firmware 2.0, the Pro Pack provides us with more advanced clip launching features. These features are familiar to users of the Force and Ableton Live. Add Matrix and Clip Edit modes, follow actions, and row launch tempo and snapshots, plus seamless import from Ableton Live for greater flexibility.

New AIR Plugins

There are 4 new AIR plugins included with the Pro Pack. They are Fabric Select, Visual EQ4, Reverb Pro and Utility.

The AIR Fabric Select plugin provides us with dynamic sample-based instruments with a curated selection of sounds. This includes pristine grand pianos to synth pads and basses.

The AIR Visual EQ4 is a visual 4-band EQ with intuitive control for precise tonal shaping. Take hands-on control with the Q-links to boost and cut your desired frequencies. Advanced features like Peak, Notch, Bandpass, and high/low pass filters, including Q range, allow you to filter out or accentuate any element of your mix.

The AIR Reverb Pro is a professional reverb algorithms for lush, immersive sound that can be crafted to create the perfect space. Select an Early Reflection, sculpt the reverb tail with Density and Dampening, and add final polish with a dedicated EQ and Compressor to make your reverb last forever.

The Air Utility plugin provides some essential audio utility tools for fitting all your tracks into the mix. Phase invert the bass to blend with the kick, use the stereo widener to enhance the stereo field, and even mono the bass frequency on your master track to make sure the low-end rumbles just right.

Final word

While the MPC Pro Pack provides a lot of excellent new features, it is disappointing that Akai have now opted to split their firmware updates to not include these features without payment. Some of these features are long-awaited and it is disappointing to have to pay for them with a hefty price tag of $199 (after the discount period is over in November 2025).
