A Classic Returns: The Behringer SDS-3 Analog Drum Synth is Here!

Get ready to add some authentic 1970s analog punch to your drum tracks! After first being previewed back in 2023, Behringer has officially announced that its highly anticipated SDS-3 analog drum synthesizer is now shipping to retailers and available for pre-order.

This new unit is a faithful and modern replica of the iconic Simmons SDS-3 drum synthesizer, a rare four-channel beast that first hit the scene in 1978 and helped define the sound of electronic music.

Overview

The Behringer SDS-3 is an analog drum synthesizer that can be used as a standalone desktop unit or mounted in a standard Eurorack case. It’s designed to authentically recreate the sounds of its vintage predecessor, giving you access to a wide range of percussive sounds, from punchy kicks and snappy toms to metallic bells, gongs, and otherworldly sci-fi effects.

It’s built around the original circuitry, featuring four independent drum channels plus a fifth “special effects” channel, giving you a huge palette for sound design.
