Maikshift Modular CM402

The CM402 is a compact 4 channel mixer from Maikshift Modular. It provides a cascadeable and compact way to combine the audio of your modules. At just 8HP, the CM402 is an affordable utility mixer for any modular skiff.

Features

There are 4 controllable channels with volume, FX send and a 3-mode channel pan and mute switch. In addition there is a 5th channel which provides a 3.5mm TRS input at fixed volume 0db. There are 2 FX sends (in mono) and 2 x FX returns with L & R inputs. The main output can be via either a 3.5mm L & R individual or via the 3.5mm TRS stereo. The module also has an FX On/Off toggle switch and a 7 segment LED level meter.

The first 4 channels are setup in a unique L & R + L & R panning setup (or mono). Each Left channel (or channels 1 and 3) are fixed assigned to FX send A. The Right channels (or channels 2 and 4) are fixed assigned to FX send B. In addition, Send A is normalised so that if Send B has no connection all FX will route to Send A. This makes for some interesting stereo and panning FX sending mixes.

AUX/FX Sends and Returns

The CM402 offers some unique FX send and return features. The first 4 channels are assigned to FX via the following table:

FX routing on the CM402

The FX send level pots allow you to adjust the auxiliary send levels with a +6dB which provides an extra push on effects.

The FX return mute (or FX ON toggle switch) provides a neat way to do a wet/dry mix recording at a simple flick of a switch.

The FX return channels can also be used as a separate set of stereo inputs and are left-mono normalised.

Rear panel functions

The panning can be adjusted via trim pots on the rear which provides individualised adjustments.

The LED level meter can be set to 4 different modes via a toggle button on the rear offering a peak hold and two colour schemes.

Module expansion

The CM402 can be expanded by connecting another CM402 via the cascade input/outputs on the rear. These are keyed connectors which provide a route-up/down of the entire mix and effects connection on the last module in the chain.
